Lasik Accurately Corrects Refractive Errors And In Most Cases Eliminates The Need For Spectacles Or Contact Lenses. However, In Some Cases, The Person Might Still Need Correction With Spectacles Or Contact Lenses For The Residual Refractive Error.
LASIK IS INDICATED FOR WHAT TYPE OF VISION PROBLEMS (REFRACTIVE ERRORS) ?
Lasik Is Indicated In People With Following Types Of Vision Problems:-
Myopia (Shortsightedness):- A Condition Where A Person Can See The Closer Objects Clearly But Objects At A Distance Apeear Blurred. The Condition Is Also Called Myopia And Eye Ball Is Too Long Or Cornea Is Too Steep In This Condition.
Hypermetropia (Farsightedness):- A Person Can See The Far Objects Clearly But The Closer Ones Appears To Be Blurred. The Condition Is Also Called Hyperopia And Eye Ball Is Too Small Or Cornea Is Too Flat In This Condition.
Astigmatism: - It Is A Condition Where The Surface For The Eye Or Cornea Is Not Perfectly Round But More Oval; Therefore, Eyes Are Unable To Focus Clearly. This Condition Is Usually Seen Along With Myopia Or Hyperopia.
AM I CANDIDATE FOR LASIK ?
Lasik Is Indicated In People Fulfilling The Following Criteria:-
- Age > 18 Years
- No Changes In Refractions For At Least 6 Months
- No Eye Infections Or Injuries
- Not Suffering From Degenerative Or Autoimmune Diseases Like Hiv Aids
HOW DOES LASIK EYE SURGERY WORK ?
Lasik Is A Computer-Aided Procedure That Involves Reshaping Of The Cornea. The Procedure Essentially Involves Three Steps.
Step 1: - A Suction Ring Is Placed On The Eye To Prevent The Eye From Moving. An Automated Microsurgical Instrument Is Used To Create A Thin Corneal Flap And The Corneal Flap Is Lifted And Folded Back.
Step 2: - The Excimer Laser, Which Has Been Preprogrammed With Measurements Specifically For The Eye, Is Then Centered Above The Eye. The Eye Looks At A Special Pinpoint Of Light (Called A Fixation Light Or Target Light) While The Laser Reshapes The Exposed Corneal Tissue.
Step 3: - The Corneal Flap Is Repositioned And The Flap And Interface Are Rinsed And The Surgeon Waits For 2-3 Minutes To Ensure The Corneal Flap Has Reattached Fully. Patients Can Blink Normally And The Corneal Flap Remains In Position.
WHAT SHOULD I DISCISS WITH MY DOCTOR BEFORE UNDERGOING LASIK ?
One Should Discuss With The Eye Doctor, if He/She Is An Ideal Candidate To Undergo Lasik. Lasik Is Not Indicated In Certain Conditions And Therefore, A Thorough Examination By A Qualified Ophthalmologist Is Required.
WHAT ARE THE REQIREMENTS BEFORE LASIK?
Stop Using Creams, Lotions, Make Up, And Perfumes A Day Before The Procedure, Stop Wearing Contact Lenses And Switch To Spectacles 7 Days Before The Lasik.
WHAT ARE THE DO'S AND DONNS 'AFTER LASIK' ?

Don'ts:- The Person Should A1 Driving Vehicle Immediately After The Procedure And Rubbing Of Eyes For A Duration Of 1 Month. The Person Should Also Avoid Swimming, Excessive Exposure To Television Or Computer, Strenuous Activity, Immediate Use Of Contact Lenses Any Cosmetics Applied Over Face And Eyes For A Specified Juration Of Time.
